PERIODS are worse in Hollywood, research claims.
Melbourne researchers analysed TV and movie treatment of menstruation and found Hollywood makes women’s monthly cycles seem worse than they really are.
Melbourne University social research Dr Lauren Rosewarne said periods were shown as “overwhelmingly negative”.
She analysed shows such as Mad Men and Grey’s Anatomy, and movies Annie Hall and Anchorman.
“The regularly, normalcy and uneventfulness of real life menstruation is rarely portrayed,” Rosewarne said.
“Instead, it’s treated as traumatic… or thoroughly catastrophic.”
